PPP: Personal Branding
A compliments slip (or with compliments slip) is a slip of paper that contains the same name and address information that would be on a letterhead of formal letter stationery, the pre-printed salutation "with compliments" or "with our/my compliments", and space afterwards for a short handwritten message to be added.

I decided that due to my ever changing interests, I would simply create a business card that I could hand out during the degree show. The idea behind it is simple, it has my info on one side with the other side being left mostly blank to allow room for a hand written message. This means that every card I give out can be personalised and adapted to the person that is receiving it. I chose not to produce any other elements of personal branding because I feel that it is unnecessary for me. The only things that I need at the moment are business cards and a printed portfolio (which will work as a set).

The Modern Aesthetic
Background:
The important thing to develop in this project is a clear and defined way of looking at the world, filtering it and editing what you find to fit your interests and working practice. Most successful designers have finely honed methodologies and this is your chance to really explore your own.
Brief:
Develop a research methodology and find a way to communicate that. It could take the form of a meta-project, or it could be more pragmatic and grounded in reality. Apply a range of research methods in the investigation of issues, practices, practitioners and companies relating to the particular area of study.

Sheffield Summer Accommodation
Following on from our discussion with John earlier on today we immediately jumped onto the internet to find out details regarding accommodation over the summer in Sheffield. We struggled to find specific details on the web so I decided to just give them a call and get the information over the phone instead. The guy on the phone took Harrisons email address and sent over a document containing all the details for the accommodation in Sheffield.
'Hi Harrison
Further to our conversation, please see attached list of summer accommodation in halls of residence for summer 2015. All halls can be contacted directly to arrange bookings etc.
In addition, Accommodation Services have an online database (Sheffield Hallam Studentpad) of private sector accommodation (shared or self-contained house, flats, bedsits and apartments etc). Sheffield Hallam University Studentpad is a simple, hassle free, property search. The properties and property owners are all registered with Sheffield Hallam University and as part of that registration have to meet the standards of Sheffield City Council via the Snug scheme, which is Sheffield City Council's student property scheme. This means all properties are up to date with current safety standards and if there are any problems the university can offer help and advice. Sheffield Hallam Studentpad can be accessed at http://www.shustudenthousing.co.uk/Accommodation
The database can be searched using a range of different criteria e.g. weekly budget, when the properties are available, contract type etc. For individuals seeking accommodation for shorter term stays I recommend searching for ‘Short Lets’ or ‘Short/Long Lets’ under the ‘Contract Type?’ search option.
An option that might be worth considering, especially if shared housing is not suitable, is Homestay (Host Family / Resident Landlords) accommodation. This type of accommodation is also available on the Sheffield Hallam Studentpad database which advertises rooms in people’s homes, bed and breakfasts, guest houses, host families and people looking for lodgers. Please search 'Resident Landlord/Host Family' under 'Living Arrangements' to view Homestay adverts. This type of accommodation can provide more flexibility and is ideal for short term/longer stays, depending upon the landlords preference.
Private sector accommodation on the Sheffield Hallam Studentpad database can be booked by contacting the landlords directly via the contact details under each individual advert. They can also be contacted to arrange viewings and answer any questions you may have regarding the property.
Furthermore, Sheffield Hallam University has links with city wide Sheffield hotels, which offer discounts on stays. For further information on short term/temporary stays and discounted hotel rates in Sheffield, please see the link below (All properties should be contacted independently).

Reflection/Reaction
After yesterdays discussion with Lee from Peter & Paul we were feeling pretty deflated and confused. On one hand it was too good of an opportunity to pass, but on the other hand neither of us can physically afford to work for free over summer, both of us require somewhere to live with our tenancies running out at the end of June before we even start work, and none of us live remotely close to Sheffield which puts us in an awkward position...
We both spoke to our parents to ask for their guidance and we're still weighing up if it's worth the expense and physical effort to give them a service for free as well as us paying to actually complete it.
John is amazing in situations like this and can throw up solutions we'd never think of so we dropped him an email and met up for a little chat. John came up with a couple of ideas for us;
One
We contact university halls of residence in Sheffield and discuss short term summer rental with them and possibly ask Peter & Paul to foot the bill as opposed to travel expenses. We worked out it'll cost £15 a day return each, which equates to £75 a week each. If we can find accomodation around this number we could propose paying for rent instead of travel. However this still leaves us with the problem of everyday living costs such as food which currently costs me around £50 a week.
Two
Enquire about some form of job seekers allowance because we will be technically unemployed and might be entitled to some form of money on a weekly basis. (This is a long shot)

Peter & Paul Negotiations
Over the past few weeks we haven't really heard much from Lee over a Peter & Paul in regards to the summer internship we had previously discussed, and we have become increasingly worried about what is going to happen over summer. We thought it would be best to send him an email just as a reminder but to also find out the details of it all.

Hello mate!
Me plan was to get you in for an interview (basically a formality as we’ll defo have you both in) after you’ve hand everything in and then sort a time for you to come in.
I was imagining that we’d have you in during May / June.
When are you handing in and all finished?
So you couldn’t be near after your tenancy is up, no?
Me
-
Our plans originally were to look at a short term lease in Sheffield depending on the duration of our time. So we were just looking for some sort details so we know whether to look for digs in Sheff.
Our final hand in is 22nd May and End of Year Show is 12th June

Hi Lee,
Sam and I were wondering if there were any updates with summer plans. We're both out of tenancy in June and just need confirmation or some idea of what's happening so that we know what our plans are come the end of June. It's getting to that time of year where we need to get everything sorted and are just worrying that we're not making any other plans come summer.
Cheers,
Harrison & Sam

Okay.
Let’s try and move this on then:
When have you completed all work for your course?
Me
-
All of our work will be completed by the 12th June,
However I am contracted to work 2 evening a week at the uni up until the the end of June, which means I am available to come over for an interview and what not, but can't begin properly until the first full week in July.
Yeah, that's why we (mainly me) have been a little worried concerning plans after uni.
Ideally we just need a rough estimate of how long we're in Sheffield for and if it's paid.

Hello lads.
Okay here is the set up which I’m thinking may not (or may) be possible for you.
Let me know what you think:
Dates: 6 – 31 July
Pay: Travel Expenses
I get it. You’re in a situation where that may not work for you, but that’s what we tend to offer interns.
It was the same when 'I were a lad'. But I was lucky and stayed at me girlfriends mums house and trained in from Nottingham (to another agency in Sheffield many moons back).
How is the signage project coming?
