OUGD 402 - Newspaper Advert: Me

The work I produced for Dry Dock; this was from the research I collected on the television program 'Cheers'.

My final outcome for the Secret 7 project

OUGD 402 - Newspaper Advert: Jasper

To start the process of creating a newspaper ad that effectively portrays my impression of Jasper, I first started by gathering some work he has produced. I also reviewed the information that he gave me, this being how he wants to portray himself.

The post-cards he created on Photoshop.

The work he produced from his research into iconic British cars. I really like this piece of design work. The way in which he has set out his pages; using full page photographs next to a page of mainly text. The simple colour scheme used throughout, as well as the same lay-out for each page, keeps consistency as doesn't detract from the photographs. This simple lay-out with clean, organised text could be something I look into using when creating his newspaper advert.

The three designs he created using image, type and type as well as image.

The font that he created on Illustrator. I really like this font and feel it very successfully represents the word 'compact'. It is a very simple font, this simplicity being key to it's success.

From the information Jasper gave me, as well as the work he has produced and the work I have gathered from his artists, I can see that he likes the use of clever typography. He is fond of clean, clear designs that are very aesthetically simple and pleasing; he obviously likes digital design. This is my best bet when creating a newspaper advert that I want to successfully represent him.

OUGD 402 - Newspaper Advert: Abi

To start the process of creating a newspaper ad that effectively portrays my impression of Abi, I first started by gathering some work she has produced. I also reviewed the information that she gave me, this being how she wants to portray herself.

Her Secret 7 submission.

The product that she produced from the research she gathered.

Her Photoshop post-cards.

Some work she created herself responding to feedback she got from a crit. I particularly like this design and the way in which it is very simple and high impact. The message is very clear and because of the colour choice the design instantly grabs your attention. The use of simple shapes and limited colour is something that I like to utilise within my own designs and could be something I end up using to create an ad that represents my interpretation of Abi.

The information that Abi gave to me:

  • Abi.Faye.Nelson@gmail.com

5 things she wants to be -
  • In the editorial industry

  • Ethical over commercial (not about making loads of money)
  • Unique
How she will achieve these aspirations -

From the work that Abi has produced, what she has told me and more so the work of artists she has told me has has an interest in, I am starting to see a bit of a trend. She likes the use of bright, vibrant colours where appropriate; this often used in conjunction with hand-rendered text. I think this is going to be my main focus point when creating her newspaper ad.
