In order to ensure that I didn't just waffle in my presentation, and after it worked really well for the group project, I decided to write a script of things that I needed to cover:
- This is the logo that I have created. It is effectively a monogram as it is formed from my initials, but with an added element.
- Continued with 5:AM concept from last year. Shows both sides of me: dedicated to stay up until 5 in the morning, but also bad enough as a student that I NEED to stay up until 5 to do things.
- My interests lie mainly within branding & identity and publishing & editorial. I enjoy conceptual design that has something behind the aesthetics, and I am a firm believer of quality over quantity. A main hobby from this year has been Ping Pong, which leads into my next slide...
- One of my main failures is my time management, as well as project management.
- I am a very bad procrastinator which leads in work being rushed last minute and thus obviously not being to the standard I know I can achieve.
- I also get very distracted with the various briefs I am working on at the same time and end up missing bits out of projects and not being able to complete everything that I had intended.
- Blogging is another issue of mine. It ALWAYS gets left until the very end of the project, usually the night before a hand-in. This causes a lot of stuff to be missed out or just forgotten.
- This year started well in terms of blogging, but slowly as things started to build up I got further and further behind.
- And this adds up and causes me to lose motivation really bad.
- I find the sheer work load becomes overwhelming and it makes me not want to do any of it.
- This starts a vicious cycle which results in late nights and long stints of blogging and trying to catch up.
- However, there have also been a lot of highlights from this year. Collaboration has become something I am very interested in now. I find it very engaging and challenging. Adds another element of pressure that makes me work much harder and produce better work, especially when working on competitions...
- Dialogue was another competition that I really enjoyed. It was a fun easy brief and this allowed me to just have fun with it.
- As the name suggests, it also lended itself nicely to collaboration and this allowed me to continue experimenting with it.
- YCN was probably my best brief this year. I had much more motivation and a strive to succeed that I ended up producing something that I was actually really happy with.
- In terms of the future, I plan to enter more competitions and win. Next year, I want to go for the double (D&AD and YCN).
- I also think its very important that I start producing work I actually enjoy. Much of this year has been spent trying to make work just to get a good grade, or at least will be liked by my peers. However, I want to do work I like and I will be proud to show to potential clients and employers.
- I feel like I have the potential to be much better, and next year I really need to step up into the third years shoes. They have been a real inspiration and have achieved so much.
- For PPP next year, I aim to network much more and make contacts and friends across multiple disciplines. I want to start getting my name and work out there so that I have options when I leave uni. This is something I haven't done yet and feel is a vital part of being a graphic designer.
- I want to become more professional and develop as a designer as well as an individual.
